Hi Reader,
The Tiny Footprint
Hey there,
Someone asked me last week how we fit an entire kitchen, an office nook, and a dog bed into 238 square feet without it feeling like a submarine. Short answer: stop thinking in square footage, start thinking in square inches.

Five ways to steal back space
1. Build up before you build out
Floor space is the most expensive real estate in a tiny home. Wall-mounted shelving, ceiling-hung pot racks, and a loft bed can reclaim 40+ square feet you didn't know you had.
2. Every piece of furniture should moonlight
A staircase that's also a dresser. A bench that's also a toolbox. Before buying anything, ask what else it could do — if the answer is "nothing," keep looking.
3. Let the windows do the decorating
Skip heavy curtains, keep sills clear, and mirror one wall opposite a window. It doubles the light without doubling the footprint.
4. One in, one out
Something new comes in, something old goes out, no exceptions. Stuff has to flow somewhere or it backs up in your one and only closet.
5. Match your storage to your walls
Cabinetry in the same tone as the wall behind it visually disappears. Save bold color for one accent wall — a small space can usually only afford one loud decision.

"The Birch," built by Tomas & Priya in Bend, OR
190 square feet on wheels, with a fold-down desk that becomes the dinner table by 6pm — and a shared wet room that saves nearly 20 square feet most tiny homes lose to hallways.

60-Second Fix
Swap your shower curtain rod for a corner tension rod. Angling it diagonally across the shower corner reclaims almost a full square foot of floor space.

You Asked
"Is a composting toilet actually as bad as it sounds?"
No — and it's usually the thing people worry about most and complain about least. Modern units separate liquids and solids, which controls odor, and most need emptying only every 3–4 weeks. Composting wins off-grid; a standard toilet wins for hookup convenience.
